What is a connector, and what do Claude and ChatGPT call it?
A connector is a link between an AI assistant and another app. Once connected, the assistant can call that app’s tools during a chat: read your data, create something, or take an action you approve. Most of them run on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard, which is why the same server URL can work in several assistants.
The names differ, and it trips people up:
- Claude says connectors. You find them under Customize, then Connectors.
- ChatGPT says plugins, under Plugins in the sidebar. A plugin can bundle apps and skills. Older pages still say connectors or apps.
- A server URL you add yourself is a custom connector in Claude and a custom MCP server in ChatGPT.
Claude’s directory shows how closely Anthropic reviewed each listing. Verified means it tested the tools for quality and compatibility, and its docs add that this is not a security audit. Community means it screened the connector but did not review it in depth. A connector you add by URL shows as Custom, and Anthropic has not reviewed it.
What can a content creator do with one?
The useful part is doing several jobs from one chat. With the right connectors on, you can ask things like:
- "Find viral posts about meal prep on TikTok." (research)
- "Write a Reels script about why most morning routines fail, in my voice." (writing)
- "Turn this YouTube video into a LinkedIn post." (repurposing)
- "Schedule this thread for Tuesday morning." (publishing, with a scheduling connector)
- "Turn these slides into a Canva design." (design)
Which connectors exist for content creators?
Prices and features as of November 2026, read on each company’s own site. “Not listed” means we did not find it on their pages, not that the product cannot do it. Scroll sideways on small screens.

| CreatorsCompanion | Find viral posts and competitors, write in your saved voice, manage your library | In review; add it by URL | Free to connect, same credits as the website. 2,500 free credits to start |
“Not found” means we did not find a listing at the expected address on November 8, 2026, so check the directory yourself. To choose, start from your biggest time sink: scheduling points to Typefully or Taplio, YouTube research to vidIQ, video clips to OpusClip, and writing in your voice from viral posts to CreatorsCompanion.
How do you add a connector in Claude?
For a listed app, open Customize, then Connectors, find the app and click Connect. To add a server by URL on a Free, Pro, Max or Ultra plan:
- Open Customize, then Connectors.
- Click Add custom connector.
- Enter a name and the server URL. Leave the OAuth fields empty unless the app’s docs give you values.
- Click Add, then Connect, sign in to the app and approve.
- In a chat, click the + button, choose Connectors and make sure it is on.
The Free plan allows one custom connector (as of November 2026). On Team and Enterprise, an Owner adds it under Organization settings, then Connectors, and each member clicks Connect under Customize, then Connectors. To limit what it can do, open the connector there and set any tool you do not need to Blocked.
How do you add one in ChatGPT?
For a listed app, open Plugins in the sidebar, select the plugin and choose Install plugin, then Connect if it asks you to sign in. To add a server by URL:
- Go to Plugins on ChatGPT on the web.
- Select the plus button, then Add custom MCP server.
- Enter a name and, under Connection, the public HTTPS server URL.
- Set the authentication the app asks for, usually OAuth.
- Read the risk warning and tick I understand and want to continue.
- Select Create as a plugin and review the tools it found.
- Install the plugin, start a new chat, type @ in the prompt box and select it.
A caveat on plans. OpenAI’s help page says custom MCP servers are available for ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu (as of November 2026), and that account and workspace policies apply. When we ran these steps on a free personal account on October 17, 2026, the option was there and our connector worked. That may change, so if you do not see Add custom MCP server, your account does not offer it right now. On a Business plan, only admins and owners can add one.
How do you connect CreatorsCompanion?
CreatorsCompanion is not listed in the Claude or ChatGPT directories yet (as of November 2026). Our Claude listing is in review and our ChatGPT listing is not live, so today you connect by adding the URL yourself.
https://www.creatorscompanion.app/mcp
In Claude, this link opens the dialog with the name and URL filled in, and you confirm before anything is added: Add CreatorsCompanion to Claude. In ChatGPT, follow the steps above with the name CreatorsCompanion and OAuth as the authentication. In Claude Code, run:
claude mcp add --transport http creatorscompanion https://www.creatorscompanion.app/mcp
Then type /mcp inside Claude Code to sign in. Cursor, VS Code, Codex, Gemini CLI and other apps are on our connect page, along with every tool and its cost.
The first time, a CreatorsCompanion page opens so you can sign in and approve. After that you can ask it to set up your profile and voice, write in your saved voice, find viral posts, track competitors, pull transcripts and manage your library. It uses the same credits as the website: a Reels script is 500 credits and a viral post search 1,200, and saving your profile, voice examples and library items uses none.
A connected app can never buy credits, change your plan or act as an admin, and we never receive your chat history. To disconnect, open Connected apps from the account menu and click Disconnect. It does not publish or schedule, so pair it with Typefully or Taplio if you want that in the chat.
What should you check before you connect one?
- Who runs it. Claude’s docs say to connect only to developers you trust, because the developer controls the tools and can change them, and Anthropic does not control how a third party handles your data. OpenAI gives the same warning about custom servers.
- What it can do. Some tools only read. Others create, change or delete things, or post in your name. Read the approval prompts, and keep Always allow for servers you trust.
- What each call costs. vidIQ’s tool calls use your plan’s credits, OpusClip lists its connector on Pro and Business, and Blotato leaves its MCP server out of the trial.
- What data it sends and keeps. Read the app’s privacy page, especially if you work with client material.
Do you actually need a connector?
Often you do not. If you are happy working in an app’s own website, a connector adds little. It earns its place when you already spend your day in Claude or ChatGPT, when you want one chat to use several apps in a row, or when you want your assistant to work with your saved voice and library without pasting them in.
It has real downsides too. Results come back as text in a chat, so you lose the app’s own screens. Sign-in can fail in private windows or when pop-ups are blocked. And an assistant can pick the wrong tool, so read what it is about to do before you approve it.
Curious what is working in your niche?
Type your niche and see posts beating their creator’s following on TikTok and Instagram. The check is free and needs no account. If one is worth making, you can sign up and we write your version in your voice. New accounts get 2,500 free credits, and you do not need a card.
Or create a free account and start from your own idea.
Frequently asked questions
Is a connector the same as a ChatGPT plugin?
Close enough for most people. Claude calls them connectors. ChatGPT calls them plugins, and a plugin can include apps that link to a service. Most of them run on the same open standard, the Model Context Protocol (MCP), so one server URL can work in both.
Do I need a paid plan to use connectors?
As of November 2026: in Claude, adding a connector by URL works on Free, Pro, Max, Ultra, Team and Enterprise, and the Free plan allows one custom connector. In ChatGPT, the plugin directory is available across plans, and each plugin depends on your plan, workspace and region. OpenAI’s help page lists custom MCP servers for Business, Enterprise and Edu. The app you connect may also need its own plan.
Why does Claude never suggest the connector I added?
Claude’s docs say directory connectors are eligible for in-chat suggestions and custom connectors are never suggested. Your custom connector still works once it is turned on for the chat.
Is CreatorsCompanion in the Claude or ChatGPT directory?
Not yet, as of November 2026. Our Claude listing is in review and our ChatGPT listing is not live. Until they are, you add it yourself with the URL https://www.creatorscompanion.app/mcp. Adding a connector by URL gives you the same tools as a listing, and it keeps working after a listing goes live.
Can a connector post for me without asking?
It depends on the app and your settings. As of November 2026, Typefully and Taplio say nothing goes out until you confirm, and OpenAI says write actions ask for confirmation by default. Claude shows approval requests, so only choose Always allow for servers you trust. CreatorsCompanion does not post at all: it writes drafts and you publish them.
Does a connector read my chat history?
Your AI app decides what it sends to each tool, and each company handles that data under its own policy, so check before you connect. CreatorsCompanion receives only what a tool needs to run, such as your idea, a link or the formats you chose, and never the rest of your conversation.
