AI that writes like you: how to get an AI to match your voice, and the tools built for it

To get an AI to write like you, give it real samples of your own writing, tell it what to keep and what to avoid, and correct its drafts until the same corrections stop coming up. ChatGPT or Claude can do this on their free plans if you keep your samples in a Project. Tools built for the job save the setup by reading your posts for you: Taplio for LinkedIn, Octupie for Instagram Reels, Jasper for marketing teams, and CreatorsCompanion across Reels, TikTok, LinkedIn, X, YouTube and email.

We make CreatorsCompanion, so weigh this accordingly. Competitor prices and features come from each company’s own website, checked on November 8, 2026, and are stated as of November 2026. We did not run a hands-on quality test of every tool, so there are no scores here. Confirm prices before you buy.

Why does AI sound generic by default?

With no samples, a model writes the most likely next word, so you get the average of everything it has read. Describing yourself barely helps: “friendly but professional” fits half the internet. Your own sentences carry what a description cannot, such as how long your sentences run, which words you repeat, and how you open and close.

One note on words: this guide is about your writing voice. Tools that clone how you sound in audio are a different category.

How do you get an AI to match your voice?

  1. Collect 5 to 10 samples per format, written by you without AI. Pick your best work, since the AI will copy the habits it sees. If you mostly speak on camera, turn your videos into text with a free tool, such as our YouTube, TikTok or Instagram transcript generator.
  2. Write a one-page voice sheet: phrases you use, words you never use, how long your sentences run, how you open and how you end. Ten honest lines beat a long brand document.
  3. Put both somewhere they persist. In ChatGPT, use a Project: select New project, add your files, then add your rules under the ••• menu and Project settings. In Claude, create a project and upload them.
  4. Ask for one draft on a topic you know well, and mark every line you would change.
  5. Turn each change into a rule and add it to the sheet. Stop when the same corrections stop coming up.
  6. Run a blind test: mix a draft in with two of your real posts and ask someone who knows your writing to find it.
A voice sheet to fill in
Write as me. Samples of my writing are attached. Copy my habits, and leave out anything that is not in them.

How I open: [e.g. a plain statement, never a question]
Sentence length: [e.g. short, then one long one]
Words I use a lot: [list]
Words I never use: [list]
How I end: [e.g. one direct ask]
Opinions I hold: [2 or 3 you would defend]

If you need a story, number or result you do not have, write [ADD] instead of inventing it.

When is ChatGPT or Claude enough, and when is a dedicated tool worth paying for?

A general assistant is enough if you write in one or two formats, post now and then, and do not mind keeping a Project up to date. It costs nothing to try, and the method above works well there. Keep two things in mind with ChatGPT (as of November 2026):

  • Do not build your voice on a new custom GPT. OpenAI has scheduled custom GPTs to retire on December 11, 2026, and is moving them to plugins. A Project avoids the migration.
  • OpenAI says information from custom instructions is used to improve its models, and that you can opt out. Check this if your samples include client work.

A dedicated tool starts to pay off when you post several times a week, when each platform needs its own samples, or when you want the tool to read your posts for you. Pick by platform: Taplio if it is LinkedIn, Octupie if it is Instagram, Subscribr if it is YouTube. Jasper makes sense when several people must write as one brand. Viuz makes sense if you also want posts scheduled.

How can you tell whether it worked?

  • The read-aloud test. Anywhere you stumble is a sentence you would not have written.
  • The edit count. Note how many lines you change per draft. If that number is not falling after a week, your samples or rules need work.
  • The banned-word check. Search each draft for the words on your never list. If they keep coming back, move the rule to the top of your instructions.
  • The blind test from step 6. It is the only one that does not rely on your own judgement.

Be honest about the limits. Any AI can copy your rhythm and vocabulary, but it does not have your stories, results or opinions. If you do not give it those, it will write around them or make them up, so keep a real one ready for each draft and check every number and claim before you publish.

Where does CreatorsCompanion fit, and where does it fall short?

You import up to five of your own posts per format from Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn or X (100 credits; videos are transcribed), or paste them for free. Each format keeps up to five voice examples and three calls to action, which you can read and edit, and every draft for that format uses them. A Creator Brain (300 credits to build) adds your offers, story, proof and voice rules, and you approve it before it is used. If you have no posts yet, you can start from a creator you love and move to your own words later.

It also starts from what is working in your niche, so you can repurpose a viral post into your own words on a structure that fits it. New accounts get 2,500 free credits once, with no card.

Another tool is the better choice in these cases:

  • You want it free for good and enjoy the setup. Use ChatGPT or Claude with the method above.
  • You post only on LinkedIn and want scheduling and analytics too. Taplio covers all of that in one place.
  • You need many people writing as one brand with approval controls. Jasper is built around brand teams.
  • You want proof before you start. We have no independent voice-match test to show you, so try it on one idea and run the blind test yourself.

Curious what is working in your niche?

Type your niche and see posts beating their creator’s following on TikTok and Instagram. The check is free and needs no account. If one is worth making, you can sign up and we write your version in your voice. New accounts get 2,500 free credits, and you do not need a card.

Or create a free account and start from your own idea.

Frequently asked questions

How do I train ChatGPT to write like me?

Create a Project, add 5 to 10 samples of your own writing as files, and put your rules in Project settings. Project instructions apply only inside that project and override your global custom instructions. Ask for one draft, correct it, and add each correction to the instructions. As of November 2026, avoid building a new custom GPT for this, because OpenAI has scheduled custom GPTs to retire on December 11, 2026.

How do I get Claude to write like me?

Create a project and upload your samples. Anthropic’s own guide says to upload 2 to 3 pieces that represent your style, and that Claude then mirrors tone, structure and phrasing patterns. Add your rules as project instructions and correct the first drafts the same way you would with any writer. As of November 2026, the free plan allows up to 5 projects.

How many writing samples does an AI need?

Five to ten per format is a good range, and even 2 or 3 helps. Keep them separate by format, because you likely write a newsletter differently from a Reel. Use text you wrote without AI. Samples an AI already drafted teach it to copy itself.

Which AI is best at matching my writing style?

We did not find an independent test that settles this, and it varies by person. The practical answer is to give your two or three candidates the same samples and the same topic, then read the drafts side by side or ask someone who knows your writing to spot the real one.

Is writing voice the same as AI voice cloning?

No. Voice cloning copies how you sound in audio. This guide is about how you write: your words, rhythm and opinions. If a search for AI voice tools shows you text-to-speech apps, add "writing style" to the search.

Can AI write like me in another language?

It can try, and it works better with samples in that language, because a translated voice often sounds stiff. CreatorsCompanion writes in the language you choose and keeps voice examples per format, and you can paste examples in that language.
