How to write an Instagram bio with this tool

  1. 1

    Describe yourself in plain words

Include what you post, who it is for, one true detail that sets you apart (a credential, a result, where you are based) and what is behind your link. The more specific the input, the less generic the bio.

  2. 2

    Choose a tone and language

Friendly and Witty suit personal creators, Professional suits coaches, freelancers and brands, Minimal gives short clean lines, and Bold leads with a strong claim. Bios can be written in 15 languages.

  3. 3

Edit, then paste into Edit profile

Copy the closest bio, swap in your own words and real details, and paste it into Edit profile on Instagram. Check the line breaks look right on your phone before you save.

You have 150 characters: spend them on the visitor

An Instagram bio is limited to 150 characters, including spaces, line breaks and emoji. Someone lands on your profile from a Reel, a tag or search and decides in a few seconds whether to follow. The bio’s job is to answer their questions quickly: what is this account, is it for me, and why should I follow now?

That means writing about what the visitor gets, not listing everything about you. “Mum of two, coffee lover, dreamer” describes you; “20-minute home workouts for busy parents” tells a stranger exactly why they would follow.

The anatomy of a bio that works

  • What you do and for whom: the first line, in the words your audience would use. “Sourdough for nervous beginners” beats “Food content creator”.
  • Proof: one specific, true detail that earns trust, such as a qualification, years of experience, a result or a well-known client. Never invent one.
  • Personality: a short phrase that sounds like you, so the bio does not read like everyone else’s in your niche.
  • What to expect: how often you post or what the series is, if that is a reason to follow (“New routine every Monday”).
  • A call to action pointing to your link: tell people what they get there (“Free 4-week plan below”), not just “link in bio”.

Use the Name field for search, the bio for people

The bold Name field above your bio is separate from your username, and Instagram search looks at it along with your username. Many creators put a short keyword there, like “Maya | Sourdough Coach” or “Sam | Budget Travel”, so people searching for the topic can find them.

Your bio text matters less for being found and more for converting the people who arrive. Write it for a human reading on a phone: plain words, no keyword lists, no hashtag walls. If you want to rank for a topic, put the word in your Name field, captions and on-screen text.

Links, line breaks and small details

Instagram lets you add links to your profile from Edit profile. Whatever tool or page you use, give people one obvious next step and say what it is in the bio. A visitor who does not know why they should tap the link usually will not.

Line breaks make a bio easy to scan: one idea per line reads far better than one long sentence. You can type them directly in Edit profile. If a break disappears or spacing looks odd after pasting, retype it in the app and preview your profile before saving.

Emoji can work as bullet points or to separate lines, but they count toward the 150 characters and can make a bio harder to read if you use too many. Use them to organise, not to decorate every word. Finally, revisit your bio when your offer changes; an outdated link or promise costs more follows than a plain bio.
